Hey Coffee Collective, I 🙋🏿♂️ need your help with something!
As I’ve been sharing this weekly series, I realized there’s been a little mix-up with the name! Some may have noticed I’ve used Grace’s Weekly Brew and Grace’s Weekly Blend interchangeably. Now it’s time to settle on one, and I’d love your input!
Which name resonates with you more? Drop your vote in the comments, and let’s make this a group decision!
Oh, and of course, a Fresh Brew awaits you, so grab your drink, settle in, and let’s get into it.
Thanks for being part of this journey!
Fresh Brew: Listening to Poetry
With its profound ability to unearth and articulate the deepest emotions, poetry is a transformative experience. It's a language that resonates with the heart, and I've found myself drawn to it more frequently, especially during those quiet moments when I seek inspiration or solace. For instance, during a particularly trying time, a poem by Rupi Kaur became my beacon of strength. A verse from her debut collection is now etched on my skin, a constant reminder to persevere.
Some of my favorite poets have been a constant source of that comfort, reminding me to s l o w down, reflect, and embrace the beauty in the everyday. Listening to poetry is different from reading it; it's an experience that feels more intimate, like you're being let in on a secret! When the words are spoken out loud, they come alive, carrying the rhythm and emotion of the poet's voice. I often choose poetry based on the mood or the situation I'm in. For instance, when I need a boost of confidence, I turn to Maya Angelou's 'Phenomenal Woman ', and when I'm feeling reflective, I listen to Rupi Kaur's 'milk & honey '.
Rupi Kaur possesses a remarkable gift for simplifying complex emotions and making them accessible. Her raw and honest poems often delve into self-love, healing, and empowerment themes. Listening to her recite her work feels like a friend sharing a personal story, a gentle reminder to bee kind to ourselves amidst life's trials and tribulations. It's a feeling of being seen and validated in our own experiences.
On the other hand, Maya Angelou brings a sense of timeless strength, resilience, and wisdom. Her i c o n i c poem "Still I Rise" has been a mantra for many, including myself. When she speaks, a power in her voice lifts you up, reminding you that no matter the struggle, there is always a way to rise above it. Listening to her read her words is a gift that feels like an anchor in a chaotic world, empowering you to rise above your challenges.

And then there's Cleo Wade, who b l e n d s poetry with storytelling in a way that feels conversational and w a r m; and Her poems often feel like letters to a friend, filled with affirmations, reflections, and gentle reminders to find love and light within ourselves. Listening to Cleo's words is like a warm embrace, a nudge to keep going and to find beauty even in the simplest moments, making you feel encouraged and supported.
Recently, I've made it a habit to sprinkle in poetry throughout the day as I've been rehearsing my poetry pieces that I'll bee sharing through the art of spoken word. It helps me remain connected with my thoughts and emotions, often sparking new perspectives or bursts of creativity, and will ultimately share my unique way in the showcase.
Whether it's Rupi Kaur's soothing rhythm, Maya Angelou's empowering voice, or Cleo Wade's comforting affirmations, poetry nourishes the soul!
